Below you'll find our more commonly asked career fair questions.

  • Is there a dress code for these events?

A business casual minimum dress code requirement will be in effect at most career fairs, but attendees are more than welcome to wear suits. As the Career Center works to develop partnerships with new employers, we understand that the impression we AND our students make on them will make a difference. Help us to attract new employers by impressing them with your savviness about appropriate career fair attire. Dress for the job you want, not the job you have!
  • What is business attire? / How should I dress?

Click on the image below to see examples of what business casual / business formal looks like!

    Example of what to wear

If you are still unsure of what is considered business casual, the following resources will help you identify articles of clothing:

  • I don’t have any business attire – what can I do?

You’re in luck! The Career Center has solicited donations from campus staff and partners to secure clothes that you can try on and select – FOR FREE! Please see below for more information on the Clothing Closet program.
  • Can I just wear jeans and a nice shirt/tie (men) or blouse (women)?

Yes, but the jeans need to be dark blue or black, no fading, stripes, patterns, tears, rips, weird colors. See the picture of the first model on the left in the example image under "What is business attire? / How should I dress?"

Thanks to donations from the campus community, the Career Center has established a Clothing Closet for students and alumni in need of professional attire or accessories. These items are provided at no charge to students and alumni of the university. Sizes, styles, and quantity will vary. The closet is open for browsing during Career Center office hours.
