In addition to
the information provided in the "Interviewing" section of this web
site, the following information may be helpful for International Students
about the interviewing process:
- Develop your
interviewing skills by practicing answers to common interview questions
(see the "Interviewing" section on this web site).
- Practice interviewing
with a fluent English speaker and/or through Mock Interviews (see
the "Interviewing" section on this web site).
- Do not ask
if the company has hired International Students before, about whether
they will sponsor you, or about salary/compensation.
- If you do not
speak English at your residence on the weekends, schedule your interview
for Wednesday or later in the week. This will help you to be more
comfortable speaking English at the interview.
- Be sure to bathe
prior to the interview.
- Have a conservative
personal appearance and wear proper interview attire (see the "Interviewing"
section on this web site for information on what to wear to an interview).
- Arrive approximately
15 minutes early to complete any paperwork.
- Engage in conversation
with the Administrative Assistant (Secretary) if possible.
- Greet your Interviewer
or members of the Interviewing Panel with a firm handshake and make
direct eye contact.
- End the interview
with a smile, a thank you, and a firm handshake.
- Send a typed
thank you letter to the person conducting the interview (see the
"Interviewing" section of this web site for an example).
