RESUMES

General Information:

Writing a resume can be a daunting task, but the Career Development Center is here to assist you! To get started, please read through the different pages of the "Resumes" section on this web site. The guides and sample resumes will provide a lot of information to get started on your resume.

Read important information about creating a Reference List.

If you would like to have your resume critiqued by a professional at the Career Development Center, you have several options:

Resume Critiques by appointment: 30 minutes to 1 hour in length. Please bring a working copy with you for the appointment. (Alumni, please see the "Alumni" section for additional information.).  Call 909-537-5250 or stop in at University Hall, Room 329 to make your appointment.

Walk-In Resume Critiques (in UH 329):

General Walk-In Times:

           Tuesday: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

           Wednesday: 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Walk-Ins are not available during Finals Week each quarter.

Walk-ins are first come, first served. These are approximately 15 minutes long; so if additional time is needed, please schedule an appointment. Please bring a working copy of your resume with you to the Walk-In.

Resume Workshops: Come check out one of our resume workshops for general tips and tricks.  Learn key ways to market your skills and talents to get your next job.

Reference List: Professional references do not belong on your resume. Instead, you can place "References available upon request" on your resume.   You can also create a Reference List page that you can provide to employers when they request it.

References should be people who can speak to your abilities on the job. Do not list relatives or friends unless they have worked with you directly as either a co-worker or an employer/supervisor. Be sure to ask your references for their permission to list them on this list; it is sometimes helpful to send a current resume to the people listed on your reference list and give them detailed information about positions to which you will apply.

Do not provide references to employers until they request them.

A sample reference list is available.
